Questions and exclusions

Required questions

  1. Required question 1 (exact ID: question-1)
Does each evidence basis, readiness level, confidence level, rationale, and locator match the frozen sources?
  2. Required question 2 (exact ID: question-2)
Are dependencies, failure modes, precursors, unknowns, Earthside benefits, and the stop gate technically and ethically bounded?
  3. Required question 3 (exact ID: question-3)
Which conclusion should be approved, revised, contested, rejected, or recused from at its current fingerprint?

Explicit exclusions

  • A system packet is not a complete spacecraft design, feasibility proof, safety case, or launch authorization.
  • Context sources do not become direct support unless the record says so with an exact locator and relation.

Requested controlled scopes: information-science, radiation-health-physics, structures-safety, systems-engineering

Frozen-evidence decision window: 365 days from the packet freeze. Not applicable to this packet family.

Complete primary record set

Every record below has one primary packet owner. Decisions must bind to the exact record and packet fingerprints; a changed lesson body, evidence grade, citation, locator, source snapshot, requirement, policy, release, or commit expires the old packet.

    Thesis
A worldship would combine a pressure vessel, rotating machine, city, hospital, school, farm, factory, and refuge; this bounded standards survey did not identify one standard covering that combination.
    Current State
    1. Crewed pressure modules, expandable structures, MMOD shields, and human-factors standards are operational in Earth orbit.
    2. Rotating-habitat gravity follows well-understood physics, but lifetime comfort and developmental biology have not been validated.
    3. Spaceflight standards focus on small groups of healthy professional adults rather than a diverse civil population.
    Unknowns
    1. Safe gravity level, rotation rate, gradient, and exposure for pregnancy, childhood, aging, and disability are unknown.
    2. Large crew-bearing rotating pressure interfaces integrated with habitation utilities, changing mass distributions, civil evacuation, and locally sustained century-scale maintenance remain unvalidated.
    3. Passive GCR shielding is mass-intensive; active shielding is experimental and adds new failure hazards.
    Earth Benefits
    1. Accessible, reconfigurable, quiet, low-toxicity interiors improve hospitals, shelters, submarines, and polar stations.
    2. Multifunctional panels can combine structure, thermal transport, sensing, radiation moderation, and repairability.
    Dependencies
    1. power-thermal
    2. health-medicine
    3. human-factors
    Gate
    Require full-scale human-in-the-loop mockups, diverse-body accessibility review, fire/refuge tests, and long-duration rotating-environment evidence.

    Rationale
The bounded standards survey found NASA and ECSS documents that separately govern human factors, pressure and fracture control, materials, fire, atmosphere, operations, and pressurized hardware. Their documented scopes, exclusions, and interfaces do not establish one qualified standard for a rotating, self-maintaining civil settlement that also functions as housing, healthcare, education, agriculture, industry, and refuge. This is a dated search conclusion, not proof of universal absence.

    1. The publisher's planned habitat-assurance venture could benefit commercially from emphasizing the absence of an integrated civil-habitat standard; no source, sponsor, customer, or indexed-organization relationship is known.
    What Would Change
An independently maintained standard that explicitly integrates rotating pressure structures, diverse civil habitability, healthcare, agriculture, industry, refuge, inspection, repair, and multidecade lifecycle assurance would narrow or supersede this claim; a collection of separately applicable crew standards would not.

NASA-STD-3001 Volume 2 supplies current human-system requirements rather than demonstration evidence. Operational applies only inside the qualified low-Earth-orbit environments, missions, configurations, and support systems.

    1. The planned venture may benefit from treating proven spacecraft subsystems as inputs to a larger assurance product; this assessment therefore limits 'operational' to each source's qualified regime and claims no NASA relationship.
    What Would Change
Evidence that any named capability is not operational in its stated current regime would lower confidence. Full-scale operation of the combined capabilities in a long-duration rotating settlement would raise the integrated readiness beyond this bounded assessment.

    1. The publisher may benefit from describing artificial-gravity evidence gaps as testbed opportunities; the assessment therefore separates established mechanics from unvalidated lifetime biology.
    What Would Change
Continuous, independently reproduced rotating-habitat evidence across years and multiple life stages—including conception, development, aging, disability, cross-axis motion, and transitions—would raise biological readiness; adverse developmental or chronic outcomes would narrow acceptable regimes or reject continuous rotation.

    What Would Change
Ethically obtained, independently reproduced longitudinal evidence could establish bounded safe regimes by life stage, body, task, radius, rate, gradient, and transition. 1. Autonomous Habitat Assurance is premised on unresolved interface, maintenance, and recovery risks, creating a commercial incentive to emphasize them; no relationship with the cited agencies or programs is claimed.
    What Would Change
A representative rotating habitat that safely completed mass-redistribution events, moving-interface faults, full-scale fires, accessible evacuation, isolation, inspection, repair, and long-duration maintenance with independent replication would raise readiness. A common-cause failure across rotation, pressure, power, or refuge would lower it.

    Rationale
Radiation-transport programs support the mass and geometry dependence of passive shielding and identify low-atomic-number options. Active fields remain research concepts whose magnets, cryogenics, stored energy, high voltage, plasma interactions, power, structure, and maintenance add hazards not removed by the shielding benefit.

    1. The publisher could benefit from highlighting radiation-assurance and active-field safety research needs; the record does not endorse a shielding technology, reactor architecture, military use, or source organization.
    What Would Change
Representative mixed-field experiments and independently reproduced transport models could establish lower-mass passive designs. An active system that demonstrates net dose reduction, field safety, quench and arc containment, power-loss behavior, structural margins, maintainability, and no unacceptable secondary exposure could raise readiness; newly observed chronic harm would lower it.

    What Would Change
Independent evaluations in hospitals, shelters, submarines, polar stations, or comparable constrained facilities showing improved access, sleep, error rates, exposure, recovery, and resident control would raise confidence. What Would Change
Full-scale aged panels must retain load, pressure, thermal, sensing, shielding, fire, inspection, and repair functions through puncture, leak, contamination, cycling, and component replacement. Common-cause loss, uninspectable damage, harmful secondaries, or irreproducible repair would favor separated functions.

    2016-02-01
    Change Date
    2024-07-12
    Status
    ACTIVE
    Freshness Note
The standards page marks the record ACTIVE. Its current download filename says revalidated 2025-09-05, while the page metadata still lists 2020-08-14 as the revalidation date and a 2025-08-14 next-review date; GShips does not resolve that metadata conflict.
    Scope Note
NASA-STD-5019A with Change 4 provides fracture-control requirements for current human-rated spaceflight hardware, including flaw classification, damage tolerance, inspection, proof, pressure systems, habitable volumes, and rotating hardware. It does not demonstrate fire safety, evacuation, mass redistribution, radiation performance, or century-scale maintenance.

    ACTIVE
    Freshness Note
NASA marks the standard ACTIVE even though the page's next-review field predates Change 3; GShips does not infer obsolescence from that metadata inconsistency.
    Scope Note
NASA-STD-6001B with Change 3 provides configuration-sensitive requirements and test methods for flammability, offgassing, compatibility, smoke, heat release, and wiring evaluation for spaceflight materials and associated support equipment. It is one scoped requirements domain, not exhaustive evidence that no integrated civil-habitat standard exists.

Validate offline

Use Node.js 22.13.0 or later. Keep the packet, worksheet, completed decision, and all six kit files together in a local directory.

  1. Download the six kit files below. Complete a copy of the JSON template offline and preserve its templateFingerprint.
  2. Finalize a separate output file.
    node finalize-review-decision.mjs \
      --input DRAFT.json \
      --output COMPLETED.json

This marks the copy complete and calculates an unkeyed canonical bundle fingerprint. A fingerprint detects changes; it is not a reviewer signature.

  3. Validate the packet and completed copy.
    node check-review-decisions.mjs \
      --packet PACKET.json \
      --decision COMPLETED.json

Add another --decision for each independent reviewer.

  4. Interpret the result narrowly. A zero exit proves structural consistency only. Neither command appoints or qualifies a reviewer, establishes independence, accepts a decision, or authorizes publication.

Completion criteria

Every primary record must receive the required number of valid, current-fingerprint approvals; every complementary scope group and required domain must be covered; any unresolved revise, contest, or reject disposition blocks publication.

Named medical, reproductive, nuclear, radiation, cybersecurity, governance, and dual-use conclusions require two distinct qualified independent humans covering complementary domain-method and rights/public-interest scopes.

  • Reviewer identity, qualification, independence, conflicts, and compensation must be assessed by accountable human governance; local validation can only report structural validity.
  • Approve, revise, contest, reject, and recuse remain visible. A negative finding cannot be hidden by an aggregate approval percentage.
  • Revision creates a new record and packet fingerprint. Prior approvals do not carry forward automatically.
  • AI may assist with clerical comparison but cannot count as an independent reviewer, identity attestor, appeal authority, or second person.
